On March 18, 2020, Jeff Barr shared some of the things AWS is doing to help your workforce to work remotely, including providing services like Amazon Connect, Amazon WorkSpaces, and Amazon Chime. At the same time in our own blog post, we announced two new offers that enable you to use Amazon WorkSpaces and Amazon WorkDocs for up to 50 users at no charge. Terms for the WorkDocs offer were provided at that time and today we are able to share additional details about the Amazon WorkSpaces offer.
Amazon WorkSpaces is a managed, secure Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) solution. You can use Amazon WorkSpaces to provision either Windows or Linux desktops in just a few minutes and quickly scale to provide thousands of desktops to workers across the globe. Starting on April 1, new WorkSpaces customers will be able to use up to 50 Windows Standard WorkSpaces plus a collection of other bundles across value, standard, and performance for Windows and Linux – through June 30, 2020 at no charge.
New WorkSpaces customers can take advantage of this offer by signing up for the Amazon WorkSpaces Free Tier which allows you to provision up to 50 WorkSpaces with the Windows Standard bundle. Additionally, the Free Tier includes one WorkSpace with the Windows Performance bundle, one WorkSpace with the Windows Value bundle, and two WorkSpaces with the Linux Standard bundle. These WorkSpaces can be used in any AWS Region where WorkSpaces Free Tier is currently available. The offer officially starts on April 1 but if you started your first WorkSpaces implementation after March 16 you will still be able to take advantage of the expanded Amazon WorkSpaces Free Tier offer.
